{"id":1002,"date":"2026-05-18T09:20:05","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T09:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pst-knu.local\/?page_id=1002"},"modified":"2026-08-05T15:07:00","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T12:07:00","slug":"admission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pst.knu.ua\/en\/admission\/","title":{"rendered":"To the Entrant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Software Systems and Technologies of the Faculty of Information Technologies of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv trains software engineers in the specialty F2 \"Software Engineering\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What does \"software engineer\" mean?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A software engineer is not \u201ca programmer who writes code.\u201d This is the person who designs software systems: decides what components they consist of, how these components \"communicate\", how the system will behave in unusual situations, how to test it and maintain it during operation. Programming is only one of the engineer's tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A qualified software engineer is needed wherever the application manages something important: a financial transaction, a medical device, an unmanned vehicle, an energy grid, a government service, etc. The demand for such specialists has not decreased over the past two decades and will continue the trend in the near future dueto the active digitalization of all spheres of society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How our program differs<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most university programs in the specialty F2 \"Software Engineering\" teach mainly  programming. Our programs build design skills <strong>engineering of complex systems<\/strong>It means<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>deep mathematical foundation<\/strong> \u2013 without which it is impossible to design real software systems. In the first year of undergraduate studies, the program contains the following educational components: mathematical analysis, discrete mathematics, probability theory, computational methods;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>modern languages and technologies<\/strong> \u2013 C#, Python, Rust, JavaScript, SQL, clouds (AWS, Azure), Docker, Kubernetes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>blocks of specialization in senior courses<\/strong> \u2013 already within the bachelor's program, applicants have the opportunity to choose  one of three blocks: \"Software Systems Engineering\", \"Intelligent Software Technologies\", \"Secure Software\", which form specific knowledge and skills;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>use of scientific developments of the department staff in the curriculum<\/strong>  \u2013 intelligent agents, theory of decision-making capabilities, hybrid automata for functional stability;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>possibility of international exchange<\/strong> \u2013 studying under Erasmus+ projects at universities in Europe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Structure of training:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table><thead><tr><th>Education level<\/th><th>Duration<\/th><th>Credits<\/th><th>What you get<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Bachelor<\/td><td>3 years 10 months<\/td><td>240 ECTS<\/td><td>Qualification of a software engineer, readiness for work<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>Master<\/td><td>1 year 9 months<\/td><td>90 ECTS<\/td><td>Advanced specialization, research skills<\/td><\/tr><tr><td>PhD<\/td><td>4 years<\/td><td>60 ECTS<\/td><td>Academic degree, academic career<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Job opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About 80% of graduates start theircareers in IT companies during their studies. Employers include SoftServe, EPAM, GlobalLogic, Luxoft, banks, and government digital services. Graduates of a master's degree usually find employment in R&amp;D or create their own startups.
